Katherine Scott Dallas, 1892-1974

As I have just posted obituaries for my Great-grandfather Dallas, it seems fitting that I should post my Great-grandmother’s as well. From The Knoxville Journal of 26 January 1974, on page 11: DALLAS, Mrs. Katherine Scott — 3117 East Fifth Avenue, wife of Dr. A.E. Dallas, died Friday [25 January 1974] St. Mary’s Hospital, member ofContinue reading “Katherine Scott Dallas, 1892-1974”

Rev. Archibald Elgin Dallas, 1894-1977 (Obituaries)

My great-grandfather was the Rev. Archibald Elgin Dallas (often mentioned as “A.E. Dallas”, and as a holder of a doctorate of divinity was sometimes addressed as “Dr.” or “DD”). I have two obituaries for Great-grandfather Dallas. The first was found with the help of the reference library staff at the Lawson-McGhee Knox County library, andContinue reading “Rev. Erna Maureen McKnelly Carrell, 1913-2008 (Obituary)

Yesterday I posted about my great-grandfather, Homer E. Carrell. In the footnotes, I posted an obituary for my great-grandmother, Erna Carrell, that was published in the Memphis newspaper. According to this page at legacy.com (a reliable source, in my view, since it gets the obituaries straight from the funeral homes) a different version of her obituaryContinue reading “Erna Maureen McKnelly Carrell, 1913-2008 (Obituary)”

Brothers: James Scott Dallas, 1927-1965 and Dr. John Lyttleton Dallas, 1929-1992

I had the pleasure of speaking on the phone this week with my great-aunt Colleen Dallas, the wife of my grandfather Dallas’s brother James. I cold-called after looking her up in an index; I cannot say that we had ever really gotten to know each other in the past. I hope to make up forContinue reading “Brothers: James Scott Dallas, 1927-1965 and Dr. John Lyttleton Dallas, 1929-1992”

Sue Carrell Dallas, 1931-2008 (Obituary)

My grandmother was Sue Carrell Dallas, who we called “Memaw”. Although I will be posting more about her at a later time, I wanted to begin organizing my Dallas family files by starting with her obituary. From 1957 to 2008, Memaw resided in Kingsport, Tennessee. In the final year of her life, however, she battled lungContinue reading “Sue Carrell Dallas, 1931-2008 (Obituary)”
